Spain's Civil Guard updated the death toll early Monday after the tail end of a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid went off the rails and slammed into an oncoming train.

The confirmed death toll from the high-speed train crash in southern Spain rose to 42 on Tuesday, according to the regional government of Andalusia, with the authorities fearing that another body could be found in the mangled wreckage.

At least 39 people died in Spain after a train derailed and collided with an oncoming one in the worst railway accident in the country since 2013.
